Frequently Asked Questions

About the Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class

Can’t I educate myself online using search engines and videos?

So much of what you find online is either incomplete or inaccurate! The benefit of the Evidence-Based Birth® Childbirth Class is that we curate the best evidence-based information and engage you and your partner in the learning process.

Won't my doctors and nurses tell me what to do?

Routine practices in some hospitals are still about 15 to 20 years behind the research, and there is so much pressure to conform to traditions that might not be in your best interests. We will teach you and your partner how to be your own advocate—a skill you can use for the rest of your life!

My friends told me that taking a childbirth class is a waste of time. Is that true?

There are a lot of poor-quality classes out there that have given childbirth education a bad reputation. The founder of Evidence Based Birth®, Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN, APRN, knows how to make classes exciting for young adults. The end result is a class that is motivating and SO much fun to participate in. You will learn more than you could ever imagine!

What will I actually learn in this class that could be of use to me?

Our students are most excited to learn about the entire toolkit of comfort measures for labor. We cover pain management techniques like massage, water immersion, upright birthing positions, acupressure, music therapy, and deep breathing, just to name a few. When labor starts, you and your partner will be ready!

About Birth/Postpartum Support Services

Do you take insurance?

Currently, we operate our private practice without accepting insurance, and we require a 50% non-refundable retainer fee to hold our calendar for your dates. This allows us to focus on providing personalized care tailored to your needs. We do provide detailed invoices with the information your insurance requires to process your reimbursement. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss payment options.

Looking for another way to pay? With BeHerVillage you can add our services to your registry and encourage your family and friends to help pay for it!

Do you do overnight shifts?

While we are happy to care for infants as parents grab a much-needed nap, we do not provide overnight services unless we are attending a birth. We serve postpartum clients as early as 8 AM and as late as 10 PM. We believe families benefit more from our guidance during the day. Our focus is on sharing valuable knowledge and practical support to help parents navigate early postpartum recovery and new parenthood while present and engaged. We want to ensure that you have the tools and resources you need to thrive as a family once we are no longer working with you.

How much does your support cost?

Our extended, all-inclusive birth support service costs $ 3,000 and includes prenatal prep, lactation counseling, and postpartum care. Our abbreviated service is $1,800, and includes one prenatal meeting, birth support, and one postpartum visit. We offer flexible, postpartum-only support packages starting at $70 per hour, with no hourly minimum required. Parents have the freedom to customize a package of total hours that best fits their needs and budgets. Please note that a 50% non-refundable retainer of the total service fee is due at signing to secure your spot on our calendar.

What areas do you serve?

We serve families in-person for birth and postpartum support in Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel, Monterey, Sand City, Del Rey Oaks, Marina, Salinas, and Moss Landing. Classes and workshops are either completely online or held in person in Pacific Grove or Salinas.
